Kenyan blogs affiliated to gambling content have dropped in ranking significantly ever since Interior CS Fred Matiangi closed the paybill numbers of 27 betting firms.
One of the blogs, Sportpesa Tips, is considering exiting the market after losing over 90% of its readers following the closure of Sportpesa.A significant number of readers were Sportpesa clients but following the exit of the giant betting firm from the country, the blog lost relevancy.
Another blog is jackpot predictions, whose traffic has dropped from average of 8,000 per day to below 2,000. The owner is struggling to remain afloat but it seems he might throw in the towel.
Venas News, a popular blog in the country, also focused more on gambling, it’s traffic has also dropped significantly though it might survive since its content id diverse.
The future of betting blogs is blurred, nothing interesting unless Sportpesa and Betin are allowed back. Any blogger aspiring to start a gambling blog should think twice. The future is in blogs related career, business, education, wealth and mobile loans.
Monitoring various blogs over the past three months, it’s evident that betting affiliated blogs have lost over 50% of traffic each. The situation worsened further when Sportpesa announced that they have closed business in Kenya. Going forward, it won’t be easy to operate a blog that covers gambling content.
