Mount Kenya University Bachelor of Law Entry Requirements

Bachelors Requirements

The LLB degree programme is a four year programme comprising of eight semesters. Each semester consists of sixteen weeks; (fourteen teaching weeks and two examination weeks).

Admission requirements
The minimum entry requirements for entry into the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme are:
1. Mean grade of C plus in KCSE with at least B plain in either English or Kiswahili;
2. At least three principal passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate for Education Examination;
3. A degree from recognised university;
4. A credit pass in a diploma in law examination from an accredited institution.

Before a student is admitted to the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme an admissions committee of the SoL considers the applications and makes recommendations to the University admissions committee.

Course Fees:
The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme costs Kshs. 70,000 per semester.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A KCSE C+ with B plain in English or a recognized degree with KCSE B plain in English- Main campus-Tuition Fees per semester KSHS 100,000

A person is not eligible for eligible for admission for the Post Graduate Diploma (advocate training programme at the Kenya School of Law) unless that person has:

  • Passed the relevant examination of any recognised University in Kenya, he holds or has become eligible for the conferment of the Bachelor of Laws degree(LLB) of that university
  • Passed the relevant examination of the university, University college or other institution prescribed by the council, he holds or has become eligible for the conferment of the Bachelor of Law degree(LLB) in the grant of that university, university college or other institution, had prior to enrolling at that university, university college or other institution:
    • Attained a minimum entry requirement for admission to a university in Kenya;
    • A minimum grade B(plain) in English language and a mean grade of C (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination or its equivalent
  • A bachelor of laws degree (LLB) from a recognised university and attained a minimum grade of C+ (C plus) in English and a minimum aggregate grade of C(plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination, holds a higher qualification e.g. ‘A’ levels, ‘IB’ , relevant ‘relevant ‘Diploma’, other ‘undergraduate degree’ or has attained a higher degree in law after the undergraduate studies in the Bachelor of Laws Programme;
  • A bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from recognized university and attained a minimum grade of C- (C minus) in English and a minimum aggregate grade of C-(C minus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination set by the Council of Legal Education as a pre-condition for admission.

Intakes

KLS has two intakes each calendar year for its Bachelor of Law Programme.
The first intake is in May and second in August.
It runs a semester system with a semester break between January and April.

Kenyatta University Bachelor of Law Entry Requirements

Minimum Admission Requirements

The minimum admission requirements for the Bachelor of Laws programme are:

  1. A mean grade of C+ (Plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent with at least B (Plain) in English or Kiswahili;
  2. At least three Principal Passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education Examination;
  3. A degree from a recognized University; or
  4. A Credit Pass in a diploma in law examination from an accredited institution, a C (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and a C+ (Plus) in English

Duration of the Programme

The Law Programme takes a minimum of eight (8) semesters of full time attendance of lectures offered at the School. This equates to two semesters per calendar year of sixteen (16) weeks that constitute fourteen (14) weeks of class contact time and two (2) weeks of examinations.

University of Nairobi Bachelor of law Entry Requirements

Subject to the regulation above, no candidate shall be registered for the degree of Bachelor of Laws unless he/she has passed the Kenya Certificate of secondary Education (KCSE) examination with a minimum grade of B+ (B plus) in English

Egerton University Bachelor of Law Minimum Entry Requirements

Minimum admission requirements:

  1. (A minimum mean Grade of B- (minus) at KCSE and a B Plain in English;
  2. or Three (3) principal passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent obtained at the same sitting, with an equivalent of a B Plain in English; OR
  3. Three (3) principal passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent obtained at different sittings, provided that the principals are of Grade C or higher; with an equivalent of a B Plain in English Language; OR
  4. An undergraduate degree in any appropriate field other than law and a minimum of C+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination or its equivalent with a minimum of grade B (plain) in English Language; OR
  5. A diploma in law of a legal education institution accredited by the Council of Legal Education, with at least a Credit pass or higher.

Strathmore University Bachelor of Law Admission Requirements

Required entrance qualifications and grades:  KCSE:

  • An aggregate of B, with a B in English or Swahili. An aggregate B- might exceptionally be considered.
  • PWD: C+, with a B in English or Swahili.
  • Persons with grade B or higher in Swahili will be required to have scored at least a B- in English.

  UK/IGCSE/GCSE:

  • O level 6 Bs, with 1 B in English (not English Literature);
  • A level 3 Bs.
  • At A level, BBC might exceptionally be considered. 
  • IB Diploma with 34 points out of 45.

  Ugandan Students:

  • A Level – 14 points with 3 principal passes and 2 subsidiary passes
  • O Level – 8 to 32 points (Division 1 or 2) with 1 or 2 in English.

  International Students: equivalent entry requirements will be applied based on KNQA advice.   Proof of the above-mentioned qualifications and grades should be sent in the form of scanned copies of the KCSE or KACE certificates. If a prospective student complies with the required entrance qualifications and grades, such students will be required to write an entrance exam. There is a non-refundable entrance examination fee of KES 2000 payable on the day of the exam.

JKUAT Bachelor of Law Admission Requirements

2.1 To be eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Laws Year 1, a Candidate must satisfy the following academic qualifications:

2.1.1 Be a holder of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E.) (or equivalent certificate) with a mean grade of at least a C+ (C Plus) or equivalent qualification, OR

2.1.2 Be a holder of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E.) (or equivalent certificate) with a mean grade of C (C Plain) or equivalent qualification and a distinction or credit pass in a relevant diploma lasting at least two taught years from an institution recognised by the JKUAT Senate and accredited to offer diploma, OR

2.1.3 Be a holder of a Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (K.A.C.E) with at least two principal passes (Principal A, B or C) or equivalent qualification as determined by the JKUAT Senate, OR

2.1.4 Be a holder of a degree or degrees from a recognized University, AND

2.1.5 Must have at least grade B (B Plain) in English at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or equivalent qualification.

Course Duration

  • The Bachelor of Laws programme lasts for a minimum period of FOUR (4) academic years comprising EIGHT (8) semesters of full-time attendance of lectures offered by the School of Law.
  • To qualify for the award of the Degree of Bachelor of Laws, a candidate is required to complete the course of study for a period of not less than FOUR academic years and not more than SIX academic years.
  • The Bachelor of Laws programme consists of fifty six (56) course units; each course unit being equivalent to 3 credit hours a week.
  • In each academic year, a student takes a total of fourteen (14) course units divided into seven (7) course units per semester.

Mode of Study and Duration

  • Full time Classes for 4 years

African Nazarene University Bachelor of Law Admission Requirements

Admission RequirementsOverall Grade of C+ in KCSE, B in English or Kiswahili, Or Division II (O’ level), 2 principals & a Subsidiary (A’level),

Exemption StatusExemptions awarded to applicants with a minimum GPA of 2.7.

Kisii University Bachelor of Law Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements

4.1 All candidates admitted to the degree programme of Bachelor of Laws must satisfy the minimum University common entrance requirements.

4.2 In addition candidates must obtain at least the minimum cut off point for the year as determined from any one of the following four cluster subjects from revised K.C.S.E. structure. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.

4.3 Candidates must have attained a minimum grade of B plain in English language.(lower grades in English not less than C plain may be admitted as long as the student undertakes to be responsible for bridging the English grades by taking the relevant Council for Legal Education (CLE) examinations upon completion of the Bachelor of Law degree without relying on Kisii University to get admission to the Kenya School of Law.

4.4 At least any one from the following.

·History and Government

·Geography

·Christian Religion Education

·Social Education and Ethics

·Hindu Religious Education

·Islamic Religious Education 

·Mathematics

4.5 Those holding qualification equivalents to above from institutions recognized by the University Academic Board.

4.6 Admission may be offered to candidates who have successfully undertaken a two-year diploma course and passed with a credit and above from a recognized institution subject to the fulfillment of contract of Legal Education requirements.

4.7 A degree or degrees from an institution recognized by the Academic Board.

4.8 A holder of Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education with at least two Principal passes and above.

University of Embu Bachelor of Law Admission Requirements

Admission requirements
The minimum admission requirements for an undergraduate degree program in law shall be
a) a mean grade of C+ (Plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination or its equivalent with a minimum grade of B Plain in English or Kiswahili;
b) at least three Principal Passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education examination;
c) a degree from a recognised university; or
d) a Credit Pass in a diploma in law examination from an accredited institution.

  1. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with the minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus) or the equivalent OR
  2. Kenya Advanced Certificate of education with a minimum of 2 principal passes and a subsidiary in general paper with a total of 10 points or the equivalent OR
  3. Diploma or professional certificate in a relevant discipline from an institution recognized by the Senate OR
  4. A Bachelors Degree from a recognized university; AND
  5. A minimum grade of B plain in English at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or the equivalent OR
  6.  Any other qualification accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to any of the above.

Chuka University Bachelor of Law Entry Requirements

At least a mean grade of C+ (Plus) in the KCSE or its equivalent with a minimum grade of B (Plain) in English or Kiswahili; or -At least three (3) Principal Passes in Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education examination; or -A degree from a recognized university recognized by the Senate; or -At least a Credit Pass in a Diploma in Law examination from an accredited institution.
