Kenyatta University BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (COMPUTER SCIENCE) Entry Requirements
A candidate pursuing the B.Sc. degree in Computer Science must meet the minimum University entry mean grade of C+ in KCSE or any other entry mean grade/ qualification recognized by the university senate. In addition the candidate must have attained the following minimum grades at KCSE or equivalent qualifications: Mathematics B+, Physics B+ and English C+.
OR
Accredited Diploma Holders. Candidates with an accredited Diploma in Computer Science or related field with a credit pass and mean grade of C in KCSE with a C+ in
Physic and Mathematics may be admitted into the first year of study and acquire credit transfer for equivalent courses with credit grade at diploma level.
University of Nairobi Bachelor of Computer Science Admission Requirements
Candidates must satisfy the University’s general admission criteria
Eligibility for consideration for admission into the degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in the School of Computing and Informatics is governed by the following minimum admission requirements or an equivalent qualification recognized by Senate:
KCSE Candidates
Candidates must have obtained a minimum grade of C+ in the following cluster subjects:
Cluster 1: Mathematics
Cluster 2: Physics
Cluster 3: Second Group II or Any Group III
Cluster 4: Any Group II/Group III/Group IV/Group V
A-Level Candidates
Candidates with 2 principal passes, one of which must be in Mathematics or Physics, and a subsidiary pass with a Credit pass in Physics at ‘O’ level.
Diploma in Computer Studies: A holder of an ordinary diploma in computer studies or equivalent with, a minimum pass at credit level, from an institution recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate. In addition, the candidate must have obtained a mean grade of C Plain at KCSE level with a C Plain in Mathematics and a C Plain in Physics.
Higher Diploma in Computer Studies: A holder of a Higher Diploma in Computer Studies or equivalent, from an institution recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate. In addition, the applicant must have obtained a minimum of C plain in Mathematics and Physics in KCSE.
Bachelor’s Degree: A holder of a Bachelor’s degree in a related academic discipline from an institution recognized by the University of Nairobi senate.

The University of Embu Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Entry Requirements
Candidates must satisfy the University’s general admission criteria for undergraduate programmes.
Eligibility for consideration for admission into the degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the School of Computing & Informatics shall be governed by the following minimum admission requirements or an equivalent qualification recognized by Senate:
KCSE: A holder of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum aggregate performance of C+. In addition candidates must have obtained a minimum grade of C+ in four subjects as shown below:
Alternative A: Mathematics, Physics, A 2nd Group II subject or Any from Group III, Any Group II or Group III or Group IV or Group V.
Alternative B: Mathematics, Physical Sciences, A 2nd Group III subject or Any from Group III, Any Group II or Group III or Group IV or Group V.
A-Level: A holder of Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) with 2 principal passes, one of which must be in Mathematics or Physics, and a subsidiary pass with a Credit pass in Physics at ’O’ level.
Diploma in Computer Studies: A holder of an ordinary diploma in computer studies or equivalent with, a minimum pass at credit level, from an institution recognized by Senate.
Higher Diploma in Computer Studies: A holder of a Higher Diploma in Computer Studies or equivalent, from an institution recognized by Senate.
Bachelor’s Degree: A holder of a Bachelor’s degree from an institution recognized by senate.
Credit Transfer and Exemptions
The point of entry into the programme for candidates other than direct KCSE shall be approved by Senate on recommendations of Board of the School of Computing & Informatics and shall be based on the qualification of the candidate.
Exemptions
Where a candidate wishes to be exempted from any course unit(s), the candidate shall send an application to the Academic Registrar justifying the request and provide evidence of the credentials which support such a request. Such a candidate may be required to sit and pass an ordinary university examination in that course unit.

Technical University of Kenya Bachelor of Technology in Computer Technology Entry requirements
Bachelor of Technology in Computer Technology | 4 Years | KCSE applicants The basic admission requirement shall be the minimum entry requirements set for entry into the public universities, which is at least an average grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). A candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements: i) KSCE Mean Grade of C+, with at least a C+ in Mathematics and Physics/Physical Science, OR ii) KACE with at least 2 Principles passes in Mathematics and Physics and 1 subsidiary pass, OR iii) Accredited Diploma in Computer Science /IT/ or related field with at least a credit pass from Commission for Higher Education accredited and validated institution. iv) KNEC Diploma holders in Computer studies with at least a credit pass and a mean grade of C at KCSE.
Strathmore University Bachelor of Science in Computer Networks and Cyber Security (BSc. CNS) admission requirements
- Be a holder of KCSE (or equivalent examination) certificate with a minimum aggregate of B and a minimum of B in Mathematics.
b) Be a holder of KACE certificate with a minimum of two principal passes, and a minimum of a credit pass in Mathematics at KCE,
c) Be a holder of any other qualification accepted by the Academic Council of the University as equivalent to any of the above.
USIU Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Technology Admission Requirements
Requirements for Applicants from Secondary Schools or High Schools
Admission to undergraduate degree programs are based on academic achievement at the secondary school level. These include Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) scores of C+ and above, five (5) credits in any five (5) subjects at the Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) or East Africa Certificate of Education (EACE).
Requirements for Secondary/High School Graduation and Equivalent/ U.S. or International Applicants
High school graduation is required for admission to USIU-Africa. High school or secondary school students must submit an official transcript of records showing date of graduation. USIU-Africa recognizes two equivalent ways of meeting the graduation requirement: General Educational Development (GED) certificate (applicant must have a minimum score of 45 on each of the five sections and an overall score of 250 or higher) or State High School Proficiency Examination (applicant must pass this examination).
Secondary/High School Applicant Test Scores:
First time freshmen U.S. citizens/permanent residents must submit their SAT or ACT results. The results are evaluated in conjunction with the high school grade point average.
International Applicants:
International applicants are considered for admission on the same basis as local applicants but must also demonstrate English proficiency. All students for whom English is not a first language are required to show English proficiency before beginning an academic program.
English Language Proficiency:
All international students must provide evidence of English language proficiency. Undergraduate applicants must have a score of 550 or higher (213 computer based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants may also submit results of the Cambridge Test of English Proficiency. A grade of C or better is required. Students from countries where English is the official language will be exempt from the USIU-Africa English proficiency requirement unless their academic performance at USIU-Africa reveals the need for additional English language study. Academic performance at USIU-Africa may reveal the necessity for further English language study by a student. The University reserves the right to make the final determination of a student’s English proficiency level in all cases.

- KCSE holders must have a minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus).
- Advanced Certificate of Education GCE or A-levels applicants must have at least 2 principal passes and one subsidiary pass or its equivalent and must have passed in subjects related to the course applied for.
- Diploma or professional certificate in a relevant discipline from an institution recognized by the University Senate.
- Advanced Diploma in a Relevant field, applicant must have an ordinary diploma from a recognized institution,
- Applicants for Advanced Diploma in Teaching in Higher Education must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in any field.
