Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Pharmacy are two courses you can do in Kenya with a grade C+ and above. In case you scored at least B+ and confused which course between the two you should pursue, then we have the answer.
From my own experience,Nursing is better than Pharmacy. This is because with nursing, you can work in hospital as a nurse and also run a pharmacy. Nursing is broader than pharmacy.
Another reason is that nursing is more marketable than pharmacy. If you graduate today together, someone with a degree in nursing will get a job faster than one with pharmacy.
In terms of salaries,a nurse earns a starting salary of Ksh 80,000 per month while a pharmacist will earn a starting salary of Ksh85,000. There is no major difference between the two professionals in terms of salary.
The best place to pursue nursing in Kenya include:
- University of Nairobi
- Amref International University
- Aga Khan University
- Kenya Methodist University
- Mount Kenya University
- Kabarak University
- JKUAT
- Kenyatta University
In case you want to work abroad, Nursing will give you an upper hand compared to Pharmacy. In USA, nurses are paid over Ksh1 million per month—it’s a hotcake profession. There is also a huge demand of nurses in Europe because of the high number of old people who need medical care.
