A Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy is one of the courses to pursue in Kenya. One question is, is it a marketable course? Well,it’s not among the most marketable courses but it can give you knowledge to help in self-employment.
International relations graduates are required to work in embassies, NGOs and government institutions that deal with foreigners. However, those jobs are few in Kenya. You will find that only those who are highly connected that get those jobs. If you came from the village to study this course, chances of getting employed are low. You should do courses like Medicine, Nursing and Computer Science where you can be employed without connections.
When you get admitted to university,you will notice that in your class,only the highly connected people are studying for this course. Most of the students are daughters and sons of politicians, ambassadors, successful entrepreneurs or NGO workers. Those are the people the course was designed for. But wewe bila connections and international exposure,you won’t get a job.
But if you have already enrolled for the program,study and ensure that you combine foreign languages like French,Italy,Germany or Chinese .These languages will help you get a job easily.
