Bachelor of Science in Biology is not marketable in Kenya. If you have been admitted to pursue the course, know that your chances of getting a job are low. But there are things to do in order to become marketable.
You may be admitted for the course to a university and find yourself not able to change the course. In that case, ensure that you graduate with first class or strong second upper so that you can get graduate trainee positions. While in college, enrol for a professional course. You can pursue ACCA alongside Bachelor of Biology. The professional course can help you to secure employment in the finance field.
Another option is to get a first class and apply for scholarship to pursue masters and PhD abroad or locally. Once you have a PhD, you will become a lecturer.
You will also start doing remote jobs. Plenty of them are available. Register with sites like flexiJobs, Upwork and Remotasks. Most of those companies pay in dollars and they can pay you more than ksh200,000 monthly.
There are also plenty of opportunities online like being a blogger, creating and running a YouTube channel and also doing affiliate marketing. You can also become an influencer.
Nowadays jobs are few even for the traditional marketable courses. You have even seen doctors striking because of salary and lack of enough opportunities.
The last option is to change your course. Instead of enrolling for Bachelor of biology, identify a marketable course and pursue it through self sponsored program. Nursing, Architecture, Piloting, Bachelor of medicine & Surgery and bachelor of law. Also,computer related courses are very marketable.
Identify marketable short courses and combine with your bachelor’s course to become more marketbale.
