Does a degree in Law Require Mathematics and Sciences in Kenya?

A degree in Law doesn’t require Mathematics and sciences. When being admitted, they only require English, Kiswahili and one humanity subject. Even if you scored E in Mathematics, the university doesn’t care.

But for you to be admitted to Bachelor of Law, you have to scored B plain and above in English and Kiswahili.

  11. 1. 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐋𝐀𝐖 𝐢𝐧 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚 are a minimum mean grade of C+ with a B (Plain) in English. In the university clusters, they consider (1) English or Kiswahili, (2) Mathematics and two other best performed subjects. 
  12. 2. Since 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐨𝐫 𝐊𝐢𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢 are compulsory, it means that every student is eligible to study law in Kenya, regardless of your subject combination. 
  13. 3. 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 is the subject commonly associated with Law. However, no university has indicated that as a compulsory subject. It is only mentioned because it helps you to understand governance and administrational organization. 
  14. 4. Under the CBE, History and Citizenship are available under 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬. It is assumed that lawyers do not require in-depth knowledge of sciences like biology, chemistry, or physics. 
  15. 5. Learners who wish to study law are, therefore, directed towards Social Sciences pathway. It means that you can take either 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬. 
  16. 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐭: Any learner who will score an equivalent of 𝐂+ 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐁 (𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧) 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐨𝐫 𝐊𝐢𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢 will be eligible to pursue a degree in LAW.
