Bachelor of Anthropology is one of the many courses offered in Kenya. Chances of getting a job with this course immediately you graduate is almost zero, meaning that it’s not marketable. The course might be marketable in areas like Europe but in Kenya, there are not institutions that will employ you instantly with your knowledge in anthropology.
The course is offered at the Nairobi University, Maseno University and Moi University. This is a course that should be abolished from our curriculum because it doesn’t offer jobs.
If you make a wrong choice during revisions, you will be admitted to this course as the last option. You will try to change to a different course but the university will deny you a chance. You will reluctantly pursue the program for 4 years.
If you want to get a job with this course, here is what to do:
Get a first class
Get a first class to enable you pursue masters and PhD so that you can become a lecturer. The first class might also help you secure graduate trainee position.
If you get a scholarship to USA or Europe, you will easily secure employment in those countries.
Drop the course for a more marketable program
Instead of pursuing the course, drop it and pursue a more marketable course especially if you have money to sponsor yourself. You can do Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Computer Science etc. This will save you from the agony of being jobless.
You can even pursue a diploma course. Some diploma courses are more marketable than degree courses.
Start doing online jobs
While in college, start doing online jobs. You might find your passion online and later realize that you don’t need a degree. Create a YouTube channel and post content, do remote jobs, become a blogger or influencer.
Another option is to start a small profitable business while in school.
Pursue a professional course
Identify a marketable professional course and pursue it—it could help you after graduation. CFA,ACCA and CFE are some of the best courses to study. With such a course, getting interview for graduate trainee jobs is easy.
Learn a skills
There are skills you can train on and become marketable. They include Artificial Intelligence, Video Edicting,Welding, public speaking, online marketing ,landscaping, web design etc.
