It’s now useless to be a blogger. The Google Core Update that happened in March 2024 completely killed blogging. Right now, don’t dream of starting a new blog because you won’t make it. Your articles may not be indexed.
Google is favouring forum sites like Quora and Raddit.Even if the content on the sites is of low quality, it will rank higher than content from any other blog. Also favoured are authority News sites which have been in the industry for more than 10 years.
If you have just created a blog, don’t imagine that you will start making money from it any time soon—you’ll have to wait for more than 5 years to come. No matter how excellent your content is, you cannot rank better than authority sites. The best is to be placed at page 10 of Google results.
About 10 years ago, one could entirely depend on AdSense for survival. Google distributed traffic fairly. You could create a blog today and by next week, your articles are ranking well. Merit mattered a lot. Right now, it’s Google to manually select which site will rank about the rest.
You cannot tell me that every blog post on Raddit is better than all blog posts on the internet?!!!
The best way to survive as a blogger is to use your blog for business. Think of a business you can do and launch it on your blog. Get your traffic from social media, email subscriptions and LinkedIn. Right now you cannot rely on Google traffic because the platform is biased.
It’s impossible now to make blogging your full time job because there is a lot of uncertainty with Google. You may wake up one day and find that your blog has been deindexed. Google might change their algorithm and deindex all your blog posts.
The other thing I have noticed is that Google is now favouring YouTube over blogs.If you post an article on your blog and another person post a video about the same topic on YouTube,the video will rank higher than the article.
Instead of creating a blog, create a YouTube channel.
